Lady Justice

Our Lady of Justice was created by Paula Jull while she was a student at Indiana University. A Louisville native born in 1949, Jull is one of three children born to Judge Louis and Dorothy H. Jull. Judge Jull was a juvenile court judge in Jefferson County in the 1950s.

Paula also created the "Kentucky Women Remembered" portraits in 1978 when she was a student at the Louisville School of Art and the University of Louisville. This exhibit is on permanent display at the Kentucky State Capitol.

Lady Justice has her historical roots in both Greece and France. She is portrayed with a sword in her left hand and scales in her right. At some time the French updated the image and added the blindfold. Thus it was that justice should be determined by the law and not based on the status of either contestant.
