Library Policies

Reasonable Access

Per KRS 172.110 county and state officials may have access to the library at reasonable hours each day except Sunday and holidays. Officials should contact the library in advance at 502-574-5943 to arrange access.

Right to Check Bags

JCPLL staff members reserve the right to check bags or briefcases upon entry and exit of the library. JCPLL reserves the right to deny access to patrons whose conduct or handling of materials violates Law Library rules or interferes with the daily operations.


A wheelchair accessible table is available. If you are confined to a wheelchair, or need assistance, a staff member will help you.

Personal Property

JCPLL assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Patrons are urged not to leave personal belongings unattended.

Library Services
Photo Copies

Copies can be made for 20¢ per page. Copiers accept change or dollar bills. Charge accounts are available if you are interested in one fill out the photocopy and fax account application linked t̲h̲i̲s̲. Users of the photocopy machines are liable for any copyright infringement.

Internet Services

Free wi-fi is available in the law library. Internet stations are for legal research only. Internet Services include Westlaw and Lexis. Due to the cost of these services, patrons without library membership must pay a user fee of $5/30 min of internet usage. Library members may access these services free of charge. All copies are 20¢ per page.

Fax Services

You may have materials faxed to your office if you have a library copy account. You must provide the correct citation. Call 574-5943 to request a fax transmission. The charge is $.25 per page.

Conference Room

JCPLL has recently added a second conference room and is now making both conference rooms available for mediations and depositions. For those renting the rooms, coffee and bottled water will be made available free of charge. Other services available onsite for an additional fee include copying, faxing, scanning and notary services.

The Jefferson County Public Law Library is pleased to work in conjunction with various educational institutions, law firms, court systems, etc. that are interested in learning more about what services JCPLL has to offer. Library staffers are more than happy to provide tours or presentations explaining how the library is set up, the purposes of the various materials and give examples of how the resources work. Agencies may contact the library at 574-5943 if interested in setting up an educational meeting. Keep in mind that the law prohibits our staff from giving legal advice or interpreting the law.

Notary Services

Library employees Amy Hilliard and Susan Wettle are certified notaries for the state of Kentucky. Notary services are provided at $5 per document.

Document Email Services

Patrons need to have a citation or case name for each document, as we are unable to perform legal research for our patrons. There is a $5 charge for one to three citations. Two dollars for each subsequent citation. Charges can be applied to an existing copy account or can be paid over the phone with a credit card.
